2. Why don't Children appear in Directories in Church Membership Keeper?

This problem usually arises because the Troi Text Plug-in included in the download was not installed properly.

  • Open the Church Membership Keeper Basic folder.
  • Open the FileMaker Extension folder (Macintosh) or the FileMaker System folder.
  • Verify that the Troi Text Plug-in is in the FileMaker Extension folder.
  • If the Troi Text Plug-in is not in the folder download CMK Basic again and copy it from the above described folder to your existing folder and launch CMK. Children should display properly.

If this does not correct the problem verify that the parent's record and child's record have the same Family ID# 1 and Parent ID#.

3. How do you recommend we handle records for couples in Church Membership Keeper?

In version 4.x of CMK it is best to create three records. Do the following:

  • Create the first record and make it the "Mr. & Mrs." or "John & Jane" record.
  • Add all of the personal and family details including children.
  • Mark this record to be included in Mailings and Directories and as a "Household" on the Ministry layout.
  • After adding all the information common to both duplicate the record to create a second record with the same information. This will ensure that the parents are properly related to the children and on another.
  • Change the name to that of the first spouse and add individual details, mark "No" for Mailings/Directory and as a "Duplicate Address" on the Ministry layout.
  • Duplicate the "Mr. & Mrs." record a second time and repeat the personalizing process for the second spouse.
